JAMMU, Feb 2: Parents and aspiring swimmers of Jammu and Kashmir today met Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council and submitted a memorandum highlighting long-pending issues related to swimming infrastructure and training facilities in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, the delegation raised serious concerns over the prolonged non-availability of a functional swimming pool at MAM Stadium, Jammu. They stressed the urgent requirement of a standard 50-metre swimming pool, which is crucial for proper training and participation in national-level competitions.
Responding to the concerns, Nuzhat Gul assured the parents and swimmers that the swimming pool facility at MAM Stadium would be provided and made functional positively by the end of March 2026.
The issue of advanced and elite-level coaching for national swimmers was also discussed. The Secretary assured that a proposal would be forwarded to the Chief Secretary for the engagement of elite coaches and the implementation of advanced training programmes to support high-performing swimmers.
Those present at the meeting included Adv. Chetan Prabhakar, Roohi Parvez, Meenakshi Salathia, Aryan Prabhakar, Musa Parvez, Manha Parvez and Aanya Prabhakar.
Parents expressed hope that timely implementation of these assurances would help swimmers from the Union Territory achieve their full potential at national and international levels.
