JAMMU, Feb 1: MLA Nagrota, Devyani Rana, today flagged off the contingent of Special Olympics athletes from Jammu & Kashmir, selected to represent the Union Territory at the Special Olympics Bharat National Athletics Championship scheduled from February 2 to 7 at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana.
The athletes earned their spots through outstanding performances at the State Games 2025 and subsequent trials conducted at Jammu University. The flag-off ceremony was attended by Dr Ashwani Jojra, Founding President & Area Director, Special Olympics Bharat – J&K UT, Dr Ajay Kumar Gupta, Director Disabilities, SAHYOG India, Kunal Gupta, Sheetal, Jagbir Singh, Sudershan Chib, Anuradha, Sahil Badyal, Hari Vishwas and Sharun Badyal, along with officials, coaches, parents, and well-wishers.
Devyani Rana described the initiative as a noble mission that brings dignity, hope and glory to intellectually challenged individuals. She praised their determination, discipline and resilience, highlighting how sports build confidence, self-belief, and social inclusion. She expressed hope that the athletes would bring laurels to J&K and eventually represent India internationally.
On the occasion, Dr Ashwani Jojra and Pooja Malhotra thanked Rana for her continuous support, noting that the athletes’ selection reflects the combined efforts of families, coaches, and Special Olympics Bharat.
