JAMMU, Jan 22: The 28th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships 2025–26 concluded at Indoor Hall, Bhagwati Nagar, here today. The four-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 500 players representing 15 districts across the Union Territory. Organized by the J&K Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India and the J&K Sports Council (JKSC), the championship highlighted the growing talent and discipline of young athletes in the region.
The closing ceremony was graced by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, as chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Rajiv Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Kuldeep Mangotra, Vijay Saraf, Kiran Wattal, Kuldeep Gupta, Manish Gupta and Ritika Salathia. The technical team was led by Atul Pangotra and Brinder Singh Manhas, with the officiating team ensuring a fair and smooth competition.
The officiating team included Nitin Singh Rathore, Pushap Thakur, Hashim Majeed, Amit Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Dushyant, Vansh Rakwal, Shalvi Saini, Tabassum Nusrat, Raghav Mehra, Aryaman Bansotra, Shivansh Rajput, Ajay Kumar and Radha Sharma.
In the Senior Male categories, winners were: Under 68kg – Dushyant (Jammu), Under 74kg – Affan Latief (Budgam), Under 80kg – Bilal Ahmad Malik (JKP) and Under 87kg – Sharawan Kotwal (Jammu).
In the Senior Female categories, champions included: Under 49kg – Khalida Jabeen (Poonch), Under 53kg – Farhat Gull (Baramulla), Under 57kg – Tabassum Nusrat (Poonch), Under 62kg – Arjeena Ramzan (Bandipora), Under 73kg – Mehreen Jan (Srinagar), and Above 73kg – Urmeela Manzoor (Shopian).
In the overall standings, District Jammu lifted the Winner’s Trophy, Udhampur was runner-up and Budgam claimed second runner-up. Special recognition for participation went to Shopian, Doda, Kathua, and Ramban, while the Best Sportsmanship Sprint Award was bagged by Srinagar, Poonch, Bandipora, and Baramulla.
