JAMMU, Dec 6: The 63rd Annual Raising Day of Home Guards & Civil Defence was celebrated at SDRF 2nd Battalion Headquarters, Gulshan Ground, here today, recognizing the dedication and service of volunteers and officers in disaster management and community safety.
The chief guest, Abdul Gani Mir, DGP Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K, congratulated all personnel, highlighting their critical role as first responders during natural and man-made disasters. He appreciated the support provided by Home Guards and Civil Defence officers over the past year and urged them to remain prepared for future challenges.
Greeting messages from the President of India, Union Home Minister, Lieutenant Governor UT J&K, Chief Minister UT J&K, and senior dignitaries were also read during the event. Mohammad Arshad, DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu cum Director Homeguards Jammu, addressed the gathering, motivating volunteers to maintain high standards of service and dedication.
Civil Defence and Home Guard volunteers were honoured with mementos, commendation certificates and cash rewards ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 for their exceptional performance during operations such as Sindoor and cloudburst relief at Chosati Paddar, Jakhani Udhampur and Vaishno Devi Katra.
Senior officials present included Zahid Naseem Manhas, SSP, Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn Jammu; MR Giri, SSP, Staff Officer to Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K; DySP Tajinder Kour, SO to DIG HG/CD & SDRF Jammu; DySP Zia ul Haq, Dy Controller CD Jammu and DySP Dev Raj, Principal CTI HG/CD Kot Bhalwal Jammu.
A similar Raising Day function was organized in Srinagar, presided over by Ramesh Kumar Angral, SSP, Director Home Guards Kashmir.
