Iranian Wrestler Mirza wins Chanderkot Int’l Dangal Title

RAMBAN, May 27: Iranian wrestler Mohammed Mirza lifted the mace of the Chanderkot International Dangal and claimed the Rs. 90,000 prize by defeating Bhupinder Gujjar of Amritsar in the final bout of the Indian Style Wrestling competition held at Chanderkot, Ramban, here today.
The Dangal featured 70 wrestlers from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Iran, competing in 35 bouts. In a thrilling draw, Benia Min of J&K Police and Vikas Valmiki of Delhi shared a cash prize of Rs 35,000 each.
Organized after an eight-year gap, the event was successfully conducted by the 12-member Chanderkot Dangal Committee, led by Irfan Khan, under the guidance of Shiv Kumar Sharma, President of Indian Style Wrestling, J&K. The organizing team included Advocate Zaheer Lone, Lamberdar Zaffer Ahmed, Insar Ali, Anayat Ali, Syed Owais Shah, Kamail Askri, Mujahid Ali, Kuljeet Chand, Amjad Ali, Rafayat Ali, and Sartaj Ali.
The Dangal was supported by the District Police Ramban, 23RR Army unit and CRPF 84 Battalion. Distinguished guests included MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju, SSP Kulbir Singh and Col. Ankush Kashyap, Commanding Officer 23RR.
In an inspiring match, 46-year-old Rakesh from RS Pura, Jammu, who is polio-affected, defeated Mangal Singh of Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Officials present included DySP Majid Ali, Naib Tehsildar Santokh Chand, Asstt. Manager J&K Bank Sajid Ali, Excise SI Wajid Ali, Mehfooz Ali, Firdous Ali, Shehansha Ali and Bilal Mir.
MLA Raju announced proposals for two indoor stadiums and a youth hostel in Ramban and appreciated the peaceful atmosphere ensured by security forces, promoting tourism and youth engagement through sports.
