UDHAMPUR, May 26: The District-Level Inter-School and Inter-Zone Boys Sports Meet was inaugurated in Udhampur under the aegis of the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The event saw the participation of over 454 athletes from 11 educational zones, promoting values of discipline, teamwork and fitness.
Romesh Chander Mishra graced the event as the chief guest. Zonal Officers from Tikri, Udhampur, Pancheri and Jib played key roles in the smooth conduct of events.
In athletics, Ankish Singh (Ghordi) won the U/17 Javelin Throw, Mohd. Aquib (Kulwanta) and Nirmal Singh (Udhampur) claimed gold in U/14 and U/17 Shot Put respectively. Saksham (Udhampur) and Nirmal Singh (Udhampur) also won in U/14 and U/17 Discus Throw. Sehran Sumbria (Chenani) and Arun Kumar (Ramnagar) topped Long Jump (U/17 & U/14), while Sakel Ahmed (Jib) and Sumit Kumar (Tikri) won High Jump (U/17 & U/14).
In Handball, Udhampur emerged champions in both categories, defeating Jib with scores of 4–2 (U/14) and 15–8 (U/17). Trials for Taekwondo, Yoga, and Badminton were also conducted to search future talent.
