Mathematics Deptt women clinch chess title

JAMMU, May 7: Outplaying their counterparts in Geography Department by (2-0) in the summit clash, Mathematics Department women clinched the chess title in the Jammu University’s Inter-Department Tournament 2014, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, under the overall supervision of its Director, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, here.
In the final Taniya Gupta drubbed Mehak Gupta, while Teena Khajuria got better of Hassina Bano.
The Tournament is organised under the overall Supervision of Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Chairman Campus Sports Committee, University of Jammu, Jammu.
Earlier, in chess women semifinals, Mathematics Department defeated The Law School by (2-0), with Taniya Gupta beating Smiley Gupta and Teena Khajuria defeating Vibhuti Narania.
In chess men, Sanskrit prevailed over The Law School by (2-1), Utkarsh (The Law School) beat Rajay (Sanskrit), Gopal (Sanskrit) trounced Vishal (The Law School) and Gopal (Sanskrit) outplayed Utkarsh (The Law School).
In badminton women, MCA Department prevailed over SHTM by (2-1).
Roshni (SHTM) drubbed Ankita (MCA ) by (21-4), while the duo of Akshma and Ankita (MCA) scripted a close win over the pair of Navneet and Roshni (SHTM) by (22-20), while Akshma (MCA) trounced Navneet (SHTM) by (21-11).
Mathematics Department thrashed Psychology by (2-0), with Amit (Math) beat Raza (Psychology) by (21-5); Sushil (Math) beat Haroon (Psychology) by (21-14) and Physical Education beat SHTM by (2-0). Taranpal (Phy Edu) beat Navdeep (SHTM) by (21-8) and Rahul (Phy Edu) defeated Kamal (SHTM)by (21-12).
Mathematics beat MCA by (2-1), with Amit (Math) beat Rahul (MCA) by (21-7); Balpreet (MCA) beat Sushil (Math) by (21-12); Amit and Sushil (Math) beat Balpreet and Rahul (MCA) by (21-10).                                                                                                    The matches were officiated by Raj Kumar Bakshi,  Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia, PD Singh and Nisha Sharma.
