JAMMU, Jan 9: A big contingent of 233 players in the disciplines of handball, sqay, wushu, judo, jeet kunedo and thang-ta, sponsored by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) to represent the State in 59th National School Games at Delhi, won 27 medals including 1 gold, 9 silver and 17 bronze.
The contingent was flagged in by the Director General Youth Service and Sports, Navin Aggarwal in an impressive and well attended function at Directorate Office today.
Aimen Bashir was the lone gold medal winner in sqay martial art, while the silver medal winners in this discipline of sports included Mukesh, Rafiq, Asmat Jan, Farhana, Nayeema Rasool, Danish Aijaz, Sohail Ahmed, Ehsan and Sheraj Ahmed.
Rakshanda, Shweta Sharma, Bisma Showkat, Shafiya Farooq, Arifa Bilal, Yasir Ayoub, Mir Talib, Hilal Ahmed and Roman Jan.
Ace judoka Shikha Bhau won bronze in judo, while Haqeek Ahmed and Uroosa Gazi bagged bronze medals in wushu.
The bronze medalists in jeet kunedo included Praver Narang, Momin Nissar, Hitesh Langar, Danish Sharma and Mehraj Khan, while Priya Bhagat clinched silver medal in thang-ta.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Mr Aggarwal while lauding the efforts of the medalists for this achievement, advised them to focus on their game to excel at the international scene.
