JAMMU, Oct 1: Defeating Harshvardhan Bisht of Delhi in a hard fought pre-quarterfinal by (2-0), J&K’s ace shuttler Vipul Saini today sailed into the men’s singles quarterfinals of the North Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship, which got underway at Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
The Championship was inaugurated by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner,
Jammu in an impressive and well attended function.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest underlined the need of sports to inculcate discipline, team spirit and competitive spirit among the youth.
Sudarshan Singh Wazir, president J&K Badminton Association presented welcome address, while prominent among others present on the occasion were NR Gupta, chairman JKBA, Dr OD Sharma, general secretary JKBA, Fayaz Ahmed, joint secretary JKBA, Balbir Jamwal, treasurer JKBA, Col DV Sharma, Rajan Sharma, Sports officer, Ravi Singh, Sports officer and Sat Pal Sharma, badminton coach.
Earlier, Vipul Saini showed extraordinary grit and displayed motor-ability, agility, sharp reflexes and anticipation and outplayed Bisht by (2-0) sets in a tough contest by (21-17, 21-18) to seal berth in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, in Narang Cup for boys’ quarterfinals, Delhi drubbed J&K by (2-0). In singles, Amrit got better of Divam by (21-6, 21-8), while in doubles, Arush and Utkarsh trounced Shantul and Satyam by (21-11, 21-13).
In another match of this event, Haryana prevailed over Rajasthan by (2-0). In singles, Arhun got better of Piyush by (21-13, 21-14), while in doubles, Himanshu and Sandeep defeated Mehul and Ajay Meena by (22-20, 21-19).
In yet another match of Narang Cup, Punjab outclassed Himachal by (2-0). Kashish beat Karan Choudhary by (21-19, 21-19) in singles, while in doubles, Kashish Sharma and Summit Sharma outplayed Karan and Arush by (21-14, 21-17).
In Shafi Qureshi Cup for girls quarterfinals, Rajasthan defeated J&K by (2-0). Sehar Musarat beat Karma by (8-21, 8-21) in singles, while in doubles, Karma Meena and Saloni Gupta got better of Sehar and Suvidha by (21-7, 21-12) in doubles event.
Chandigarh outclassed Punjab by (2-0). Muskan Sohi beat Dipasha by (21-10, 21-13) in singles, while in doubles, Muskan and Kailash outplayed Aditi and Harlivleen by (21-16, 21-15).
Haryana beat Himachal Pradesh by (2-0), with Lalita beating Divya Duggal in singles by (21-11, 21-11), while in doubles, Komal ad Lalita pair got better of the duo of Divya and Simran by (21-12, 21-9).
