Taj inaugurates 59th NSG U-14 Boys Cricket Tourney

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: In an impressive, well attended and colourful function, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for Youth Services and Sports inaugurated the 59th National School Games, Under-14 Boys Cricket Tournament, being hosted by the State of Jammu and Kashmir and organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K, under aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at Bakhshi Stadium, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Taj said while welcoming the participating contingents said that such championships serve in bringing peace and harmony through the messengers of peace (sportspersons) and hoped that every team plays in the best spirit of sportsmanship.
Navin Aggarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports while welcoming chief guest and the participating players and coaches, elaborated the fool-proof arrangements made by the Department for comfortable stay of participants and provision of best possible playing facilities.
Senior officers from Police and Civil Administration, besides senior vice-president, SGFI Ashok Kumar were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile in the matches played today, Delhi defeated Daman Dew by 10 wickets, NVS got better of Gujarat by 59 runs.
21 State teams are taking part in this sporting extravaganza.
The matches are being played on League-cum- Knockout basis at six venues of University of Kashmir, N.I.T, Islamia College, Srinagar, Government Hr. Sec. School Bijbehara and Government Degree College Baramulla grounds.
Approximately, 41 matches will be played in the championship including semi-finals and final.
Meanwhile, the Minister also inaugurated a football tournament sponsored by State Bank of India at Polo ground this evening.
The inaugural match was played between J&K Bank and AG’s office.
