6000 to participate in 6th Ladakh Marathon

LEH, Sept 6: The stage has been set to host the 6th Ladakh Marathon, which is scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10. As many as 6000 participants from 27 different countries will take part in the Marathon in four categories including 7 km Run for Fun, Half Marathon (21.1 km), Full Marathon (41.1 km) and Khardungla Challenge (71.2 km Ultra Marathon over the mighty 17,680 feet high Khardung La Pass considered as world’s highest motorable road).
Since its inception in 2012, the organizer Rimo Expedition has never looked back and always added more colours to the event. This year the Marathon has been extended for two days and Khardongla Challenge will be held on September 9, while other three categories will be held on September 10.
When asked about the preparation, Rimo Expedition Director Tsewang Motup said all things are in place to host the 6th Ladakh Marathon and nearly 6000 participants including 4000 locals students, army and paramilitary personnel and individual are taking part in it.
He added that in the starting year of Ladakh Marathon in 2012, there were only 1500 participants out of which 1300 were the local participants from the schools and just had only 11 local and 3 outsider runners at Khardung-La. But now Ladakh Marathon is very popular annual sport event and witnessed tremendous growth with huge number of participants every year. The Ladakh Marathon has already helped local girls to take part at National level event, he stated.
