JAMMU, Oct 4: The J&K UT and Inter District Table Tennis Championships commenced at indoor sports complex MA Stadium, here today.
The championships were officially declared open by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council, who was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Zaffar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer was the guest of honour.
Secretary Sports Council while speaking encouraged the players to give hundred percent and play in the right spirit of the game. She, a prominent face responsible for the upliftment of the sports in the UT of J&K was all praise for the organizers, players and the parents who encouraged their children to give their best in the field of sports.
Around 175 players from different districts of the UT of J&K are participating in the championships which will be a five day long affair.
The tournament is being organized by J&K Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the Sports Council of the UT of J&K.
The first round matches of Hops (Under 11) boys, Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls singles were underway till the last reports came in.
Prominent among those who were present include Satbir Singh, Rajan Sharma, IP Singh, Satish Gupta, Ajay Sharma, Er Saleem Bandey Secretary Poonch District TT Association, Ashok Singh Sports Officer Jammu Province, Vikas Gupta Joint Secretary, Judo Federation of India, Gurvinder Singh Sasan, Vasu Dewan, Sandeep Khadotra, Narinder Singh, Sheetal Gandotra and Sanjeev Gupta.
The matches were officiated by Gurvinder Singh Sasan (NIS Table Tennis coach), Sandeep Khadotra (NIS Table Tennis coach) and Vasu Dewan.
