JAMMU, Oct 11: Curtains came down on the 39th Annual Athletic Meet of Sainik School Nagrota amidst fanfare and jubilation at Maj Somnath Sharma PVC Stadium of the School today.
The three day long annual feature of the school was declared ‘Open” by the Principal Col Kapil Dev Koushal on October 8, 2015 and included a variety of track and field events.
Aspiring athletes from three houses namely Azad House, Bhagat House and Subhash House competed in junior as well as senior categories. Bhagat House topped the medal tally at the end of second day amongst Seniors and Azad House was leading in Junior category. The final day’s events included 4 x 100 m relay for Juniors, 4 x 100 m relay for Seniors, long jump, 4 x 100 m hurdle race and 100 m run for Seniors. Subhash House , which followed closely at the second place could not turn the tables in their favour despite some superlative efforts from the cadets of the house on the last day’s events.
The Closing Ceremony was marked by an impressive march past by the participating houses. The Principal of the school gave away the medals and certificates to the winners of various track and field events.
Cadet Saurav Kumar of Bhagat House was declared Best Athlete among the Seniors while Cadet Manzoor Hussain of Azad House won the Best Athlete award in the junior category.
The overall championship trophy was clinched by the Bhagat House in senior category while Azad House stood first among juniors.
RP Singh, Principal, GD Goenka School and Kavita Singh were the guests of honour on this occasion.
