2nd Jammu Tawi Premier Cricket Cup gets underway

*Strikers XI outplays Magnum in opening tie

JAMMU, Dec 12: 2nd Jammu Tawi Premier Cricket Cup, being organized by the Jammu Tawi Cricket Club in collaboration with the Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), got underway at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
The Tournament, in which around 20 teams are participating, was inaugurated by Dharam Vir Singh Jamwal, Ex Deputy Mayor JMC in a well attended function, today.
Prominent among others present on the occasion Indraj Bagal, Surinder Kumar, Vikram Gupta and Krishan.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Strikers XI scored a fighting total of 141 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Jitender Sharma was the top scorer with 59 runs off 37 balls, while Amit Rathi and Rohit Sharma contributed 29 and 16 runs to the total respectively. For Magnum 13 Cricket Club, Rohin Gupta was the pick of the bowlers who bagged 4 important wickets by conceding 13 runs in his 4 overs, while Hitesh Dubey bagged 2 and Mansoor claimed one.
In reply, Magnum 13 CC, managed to score 101 runs in the allotted 20 overs by losing 9 wickets, thus lost the match by 40 runs. Ayaz Ahmed and Sahil Salaria contributed 35 and 23 runs to the total respectively. Varun Khajuria, Sanjay and Ankan shared 2 wickets each, while Sachin and Surinder claimed one wicket.
Jitender Sharma was adjudged man of the match for his superb batting performace.
The match was officiated by Rajinder Singh, Rajeev and Sohail Yousuf.
“JKCA joint secretary and vice chairman Jammu wing provided ground and allied facilities to the organizers for smooth and successful conduct of the Tournament,” said Shashi Paul, organizing secretary of the Tournament.
