26 cyclists complete 300 km BRMs ride

JAMMU, Dec 21: Twenty six riders out of a total of 31 have completed the Jammu Punjab Express Ride 300km Brevet Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRMs) endurance cycle ride in the stipulated time of 20 hours.
There was a lone female rider, Reena Jain who participated and finished the event in the allotted time frame.
The 300 km BRM was conducted by Udhampur Randonneur Club and supported by Rahul Sharma- founder member of Jammu Hills Sports Club.
Rahil Gupta, organizer of the Club said that for such long-distance cycling, special care had to be taken to ensure hydration. Strength of mind was also a prerequisite. “BRM has become a uniting factor for the community and continuously has been nurturing a group of people who seem to be highly positive and ready to take the challenge that abundantly adds to the joys of life besides building a strong community,” he said.
The ride started from Raja Electronics opposite Jammu Airport-Lakhanpur-Gurdaspur-Dhariwal and back to Raja Electronics on Saturday morning by covering 300 km distance in the stipulated time.
The randonneuring is long distance endurance cycling with rides ranging from 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1,000 km called Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRMs). This style of riding is non-competitive in nature and self-sufficient. Participation in Randonneuring events is part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy.
