JAMMU, Mar 2: 16th Prof BD Sharma Memorial Inter- Collegiate/ Inter- Departmental Debate Contest was organized by the Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu, here.
This event is organized every year by the Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu in the memory of Prof. B.D. Sharma a renowned economist of the State.
Floral Tributes were paid to Prof. B.D. Sharma on the occasion.
The topic of the debate was, in the opinion of the house, “Skill Development is a potential source to ease the unemployment problem in India”.
In all, 30 teams comprising of 60 participants took part in the competition.
The Chairman NSS Campus Units, Prof Jasbir Singh was the chief guest on the occasion, who appreciated the office of the NSS Programme Coordinator for organizing such events and remembered Prof. B. D. Sharma and his ideas.
He apprised the gathering of the valuable contributions made by Prof. B.D. Sharma in the field of economic research.
Prof Jasbir Singh highlighted that today the moral and ethical values are important for the young generation and for this one needs strong visionary educational system. Dr. Vishav Raksha, Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu, in her welcome address introduced the theme of the debate. The event was adjudged by Jagdish Chander, Sh. Nirmal Vinod and Nitish Arora. Prof. B.D. Sharma Memorial Running Trophy was won by the team from the Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar. The prizes were given away by Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu. The first prize was bagged by Seerat Bazi of GCW Gandhi Nagar, second prize was bagged by Harneet Singh of DDE, University of Jammu while the third prize was won by Mohmmad Jamal Ahmed of MIET, Jammu. Two appreciation awards were given to Svikriti Mahajan of The Law School, University of Jammu and Rahul Bhou of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial of Education.
The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Hema Gandotra, NSS Programme Officer, University of Jammu.
Among those who were present on the occasion included Dr Anju Thappa, Dr. Seema Rohmetra, Dr Aroon Sharma, faculty members of Economics Department and the NSS Programme officers from various colleges of Jammu.
Radhika conducted the proceedings of the debate and Ganesh Singh and Jasvir Singh, Senior NSS volunteers helped in organizing the event.
