SRINAGAR, Dec 30: The 15th National Ice Speed Skating Championship commenced at GDA Ice Skating Rink at Gulmarg today.
Famous Olympic Coach and international skiing athlete Shabir Ahmad Wani inaugurated the morning session of the championship among large gathering of skaters, parents, officials and tourists.
Among others AR Dar, former District Youth Services Officer, Hafeeza Hassan International Skier, Prof Gurmeet Kaur, Muhammad Yusuf, General Secretary WGAJK and ATOAK, Ashraf Dijoo General Secretary J&K Ice Skating Association of J&K, Anjum Shafi Wani AE-GDA, Ravi Dhillon and SK Rao, ISAI coaches were present on the occasion.
In 15-17 years boys 500 meters, Adeeb Wani of J&K, Umar Iqbal of J&K and Yogesh Sharma of Madhya Pradesh bagged Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively, whereas in girls category, Ashel D’Silva of Karnataka, Swarali Deo of Maharashtra and Visheshta Singh of Madhya Pradesh secured Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
In 17-19 years boys 500 meters, Prajwal Sharath of Karnataka, Bhargava K. Lokesh of Karnataka and Ashwin D’Silva of Karnataka clinched Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively, whereas in above 19 Senior Men 500 meters, Dr Versha S Puranik of Karnataka, Reethu Dinesh of Karnataka and Raina Kukreja of Haryana bagged Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
RK Gupta, President, Ice Skating Association of India conveyed his best wishes to the participating players.
