14th J&K State Athletic C’ship gets underway

JAMMU, Sept 4: 14th J&K State Athletic Championship, organized by J&K Athletic Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council and J&K Olympic Association got underway today at MA Stadium, here today.
On the occasion, Manmohan Singh, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation was the chief guest, who inaugurated the Championship in presence of Rangil Singh, President, J&K Olympic Association, Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary J&K Olympic Association, Ravinder Singh, General Secretary, SS Gill, Associate Secretary, Sunil Mahajan, Vikas Gupta, Nirmal Singh, Vinod, Tara Mani, Ramesh Sharma, Gurucharan Singh, Shamas Din and Sohan Lal.
Around 300 athletes from Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Poonch, Reasi, Kathua and Srinagar are participating in the Championship.
In under-18 category, Umar Hameed, Imtiaz Ahmed and Vishavjeet Singh secured first, second and third positions respectively in 1500 meters, in Shotput, Mohammad Afzal, Nabdeep Singh and Deepak Kumar clinched first, second and third positions respectively. In 100 meters, Rahul Singh, Ayush Sharma and Iftkhar bagged first, second and third positions respectively, in 400 meters, Abhinav, Asaf-ul-Zaman and Randheer secured first, second and third positions respectively and in 800 meters, Abhinav, Simarjeet and Jhangir bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
In under-16 category, Roshan, Viney and Ubaid emerged winners in Shotput, whereas in 100 meters, Keshiv, Amaan and Imran bagged first, second and third positions respectively, 1000 meters,
Aryaveer, Ritik and Shubam secured first, second and third positions respectively and in 400 meters, Randeep, Vipul and Amarjeet clinched first, second and third positions respectively.
In under-20 category, Sunil, Sarabjit and Inderpal Singh clinched first, second and third positions respectively in 1500 meters, whereas in Shotput, Washeed Ahmed, Tarun  Chib and Gopal bagged first, second and third positions respectively, in 100 meters, Vishal, Mohammad Ishfaq and Sunny secured first, second and third positions respectively and in 400 meters, Kulbir, Rajan and Sarabjeet bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
