BHADERWAH, Apr 23: To give a fillip to the sports activities in far off areas at school level and to explore talent at young age, Inter Zone school tournament in the disciplines of Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Wrestling, Badminton, Handball, Volleyball and Throw ball, for Under-17 and Under-14 boys commenced at Government HSS Boys, here today.
The tournament in which 317 students of both Under 17 and 14 categories from 22 schools are participating is being organized under the directions of District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Ashok Kumar Kotwal.
During the opening ceremony of the sports gala, Principal of host School Shabnam Nijar was the chief guest.
The tournament was declared open by the chief guest along with Zonal Physical Education officer (ZEPO) Pritam Singh after the traditional pledge ceremony.
On the first day of the tournament in Under 17 category, Nichlathara Gatha beat HSS Sartingal in Volleyball, while in Kabaddi, Green Model defeated High School Bheja.
In Wrestling HSS Bhaderwah emerged winners in Under-17 while in Under-14 GMS Mandir defeated GMS Sartingal.
Besides ZEPO, PEMs, PETs, technical and field staff of DYSSO, prominent among others who were present on the occasion included Arif Rana, Murtaza Qadir, Majid Aslam Wani, Abdul Haq, Mudassir Maqbool, Rajni Kotwal, Neeta Manhas, Jay Kumar and Tariq Mehmood.
