Jammu, July 20: With 10.5 points, team from WR-II comprising of Anjan Sen, Sandeep Rana, Shailesh Charpot and Nilesh Chawda clinched the Team Championship in POWERGRID Inter Regional Chess Tournament 2013 at KC Residency, here.
Though the first runner up team SR-I comprising of Aum Rao, J.Koteswara Rao, T.Srinivasa Rao and R.V.Ramana also bagged 10.5 points, but WR-II was declared the winner as its buchholz score was 36.5 against 29 of SR-I. SRTS-II Team comprising of R.Bhuvaneswaran, M.Murali, B.Balasubramanian and A.Girish Kumar remained second runner up with total 10 points.
Hosts NR-II team comprising of S.K.Chouhan, Sushil , Subhasis Mondal and B.S.Yadav remained at 4th place with total of 9 points.
After the matches the closing ceremony was held in which prizes and trophies were distributed among the players and match officials. The closing ceremony was chaired by S K Sharma, General Manager (I/C-Projects ) POWERGRID , Northern Region-II in presence of senior officials of POWERGRID and other guests. S K Sharma distributed the prizes among the winners. In his brief address, he highlighted the importance of sports in our daily lives and praised the efforts POWERGRID takes in arranging various sports events to keep its employees mentally and physically fit.
