WDR participates in Tour-De-Kailash in Uttarakhand

JAMMU, May 30: Women Cyclist group of Jammu, Women Do Ride (WDR) along with 60 other cyclists from across the country pedalled at an altitude of over 10,500 feet above sea level adjacent to the Indo-China-Nepal border in Uttarakhand to complete first edition of Tour-De-Kailash Cycle Rally.
With the participation in the aforesaid rally, it has become the first J&K cyclist group to ride over 10,500 feet altitude, which was organised by Uttarakhand Government and Pithoragarh District Administration to mark the ’75th Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ wherein cyclists completed a distance of about 40 kilometres from Gunji village to Adi Kailash via Om Parvat in Vyas valley.
This was the very first time that such a cycle rally was conducted at such high altitude. The rally was flagged off by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in presence of District Magistrate, Ashish Kumar Chauhan.
The Chief Minister and DM Pithoragarh lauded WDR for their movement to empower women. The Jammu cyclists who participated in the rally included Payal Jain, Dr Ritu Ahal, Reena Jain, Manisha Sharma and Palvinder Kaur.
Event Director Yatinder Mamgain said that these events escalated the spirit of patriotism amongst participants and promoted ‘Responsible Tourism’, while Payal Jain, Chairperson of WDR Jammu said that the cyclists proved that the possibility of zero carbon footprint is possible in mountains as well. She added that this was a responsible environmental expedition that brought Pithoragarh and Uttarakhand on the world cycling map.
The Government had made elaborate arrangements for cyclists for which the participants thanked the administration.
