Wattal emerges champion in 40th J&K State Badminton C’ship

JAMMU, Oct 29: In the 40th J&K State Badminton Championship held at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium in Srinagar today, JMC Commissioner, Kiran Wattal emerged as State Champion in the category of 55 and above.
In the championship, which was organised by J&K Badminton Association, more than 200 players (men and woman) participated under the categories of 10, 12, 15, 35, 45 and 55 years.
In the singles, Wattal defeated Sunil Gorkha in straight sets (21-8, 21-15) in the final and became the State Championship in the category of 55 and above.
In doubles too, Wattal and Balbir Singh Jamwal defeated Sunil Gorkha and Harjit Singh to win the final.
A graduate from Thappar Engineering College, Patiala, Wattal has excelled in different sports disciplines right from his school days. In 1975, he won weight lifting and body building championship in Punjabi University.
DIG, Srinagar, Syed Mujataba, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the winners and the runners-up shuttlers and teams.
