Water sports focused area of present dispensation: Sunil

SRINAGAR, June 1: Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charges), PHE, Panchayati Raj and Youth Service and Sports Sunil Kumar Sharma said that water sports will be key focused area of the present dispensation.
Minister was addressing Kayaking and Canoeing players at Water Sports Center, Nehru Park, here today.
He was accompanied by President Water Sports (Kayaking and Canoeing Association) and MLC Firdous Tak, Vice President and MLA Aijaz Ahmed Mir, General Secretary Bilquis Mir and Aashir Lone.
Sharma said that Jammu and Kashmir has natural infrastructure for water sports and Government will accord special attention to promote the game. He added that kayaking and canoeing players have excelled at national level highlighting the potential of Jammu and Kashmir in the sport.
He assured full support and cooperation to the players and said that doors of Government were open for any suggestion to promote the game.
MLC Firdous Tak on the occasion announced Rs 5 lakh out of his CDF to be spent on purchase of basic equipments for kayaking and canoeing through JK Sports Council.
He said that since formation of PDP-BJP Government water sports has received major boost due to which teams have won several national championships.
MLA Wachi Aijaz Mir said that J&K produces natural paddlers and they have the capability to excel at all level. He said that if given proper opportunity the players from Jammu and Kashmir can represent the country at international level.
