JAMMU, May 22: Left-arm spinner Vijay Dogra wrecked havoc and spun a web around the rival batsmen to scalp 5 wickets by conceding just 2 runs in his 3 overs, helping New Challengers Cricket Club to thrash Samar Cricket Club by a big margin of 92 runs and win the title trophy of the Holi Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, organized by Mandal Cricket Committee at Mandal ground, here today.
Former Minister, Ajay Sadhotra was the chief guest during the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion. Former chairman Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Romesh Mahajan; Sarpanch Mandal, Subash Sharma; Sarpanch Patoli Brahamana, Subash Sharma; Member BCCI and JKCA Working Committee, Ankush Abrol; Raghubir Singh and Working Committee member JKCA, Rajesh Dhar were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Vikram Jamwal, Ashwani Dubey and Shashi Paul, besides the organizers Sachin Singh, Sunil Kumar and Manmohan Paroch.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, New Challengers Cricket Club scored decent 156 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Sahil Bhalwal and Rahul Mussa scored 25 runs each, while Deepak Singh Manhas and Soumay Jain contributed quick-fire 17 runs each to the total. Ramdayal, Bansi Lal, Sandeep Singh and Manjeet Singh chipped in with 12, 10, 9 and 8 runs respectively. For Samar Cricket Club, Kamal Kishore, Rajan and Shankar bagged 2 wickets each, while Bandeep Singh, Amrit Pal Singh and Monu shared one wicket each.
In reply, Samar Cricket Club got bundled out for a paltry total of 64 runs to lose the match by a huge margin of 92 runs as the bowlers of New Challengers Club bowled with nagging line and teasing length. Aditya Partap Singh (16), Bandeep Singh (14), Amrit Pal Singh (12) and Monu (11) were the main contributors. For New Challengers Club, Vijay Dogra was the pick of the bowlers, who took 5 wickets, while Ramdayal took 2 wickets. Vijay Dogra was adjudged as man of the match for his superb bowling display, while Amrit Pal Singh was declared man of the series and the best bowler of the tournament.
The winning team was presented a cash award of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy by the chief guest, while the runners-up team received a cash prize of Rs 10, 000 and a trophy on the occasion.
The match was officiated by cricket coach Sunil Kumar and Varinder Singh as umpires, while Rajeev Gupta acted as scorer and Sohan Bharti as commentator.
