SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Aimed at raising the public awareness on environmental protection, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University (VC KU) Prof Talat Ahmad today flagged off an Inter-School Cycling Race from Zainul Abideen Gate of the Kashmir University to SKICC lawns.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Talat said that the participation of cyclists from different schools of the Valley in the event is highly encouraging. He asked the organizers to make this event an annual feature.
Prof Farooq Ahmad Khan, Coordinator NSS KU, while speaking on the occasion said that the event is intended to change the perception of students about need for preserving environment and helping them to be responsible citizens.
The rally was later joined by Incharge Director IIT Srinagar, Prof A R Dar.
Themed ‘Save Dal’, the programme, organized by NSS University of Kashmir in collaboration with IIT Srinagar , IIT Mumbai, UNICEF attracted 300 students and volunteers from different schools of Valley to bike 4 kilometers fore shore road in Srinagar and create awareness among people about saving Dal lake.
Later, in a Prize Distribution Function held at the SKICC lawns, fresh bicycles were presented to winners of the rally.
