Unrecognised Sports Associations befool players, parents

JAMMU, Jan 17: The State of Jammu and Kashmir, on the one hand, is striving hard to create a niche in the field of sports, the unrecognized and unaffiliated Associations, on the other hand, are hell-bent upon to blow a death-knell to the promotion of sports and games in the State.
Sources said that the unrecognized Sports Associations are holding activities frequently at the District and State level to lure budding sportspersons towards them, while the affiliate units of the State’s elitist Sports Body, the J&K State Sports Council, face much difficulty in holding the domestic activities due to lack of funds, which results in putting the priority games on the back burner.
It is pertinent to mention here that the priority games in the State rather the medal winning sports disciplines like gymnastics, wushu, fencing, kick-boxing, skating, handball and judo etc always remain at the receiving end in the scheme of things in Jammu and Kashmir, while most of the unrecognized games are introduced like wild fire by their administrators with the sole aim to enjoy power and pelf and befool budding sportspersons as also their parents.
“The unrecognized Sports Associations in the State hold domestic activities with pomp and show and give tall promises to the participants and their parents with regard to achieving certificates and medals at the national scene. These Associations have affiliation with similar unrecognized units in other States for holding ‘so called’ national level activities. However, such promises turn out to be hollow at the end of the day,” said an official from J&K State Sports Council, while talking to EXCELSIOR and expressing anonymity.
“More than 50 percent of the Sports Associations which organize activities in the State are unrecognized, for that matter, any activity held by them is fake or frill,” the official added.
Sources said that hardly any effort is being made in the State with regard to promoting medal winning sports disciplines and encouraging their players, adding when there should have been grand felicitations to honour sportspersons of priority games, one witnesses illegal Associations ruling the roost.
Experts believe that the need is that the priority games ought not to be put on the back burner by holding more and more standard activities in such games, besides developing better infrastructural facilities.
Rather than identifying and encouraging the priority games, what is more important is to discourage the administrators of the unrecognized Sports Associations and unrecognized games. For that matter, parents have to play a pivotal role in discouraging the false sports promoters from holding illegal activities to pool money.
For the knowledge of the parents and the players, the list of the recognized Associations has already been published in the newspapers and is also available with the J&K State Sports Council.
