SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Three days ‘Bakeman Underwater Sports Championship’, organised by Under Water Sports Association of J&K, concluded at Water Sports Centre Nigeen, here today.
During the championship, the Association organised around 10 events including 50M Bi Fin, 100M Bi Fin, Freestyle Swimming, Fun Race etc in which around 308 swimmers took part.
Malik Waseem Deputy Director Tourism, Recreation was the chief guest of the valedictory function. The event was also attended by Azad Ahmad Shah (Managing Director Shah Steel House) and Rashid Makhdoomi (Printer, Publisher and General Manager of GK Communications Pvt Ltd) as guests of honour along with Mudasir Mushtaq (Tourist Officer), Shaista (Incharge Nigeen Club) and Shakeel Ahmad Shah (Bakeman Home Appliances).
Swimming expert, Riyaz Wani gave a brief introduction of the Society.
Mahir Tahir finished first in 100m Bi Fin (Senior), while Syed Shaan Ali Andrabi and Mohsin Fayaz stood 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Malik Waseem congratulated all the participants in general and medal winners in particular and appreciated the efforts of Swim N Survival Society, Kashmir for providing training free of cost. He assured that the Department of Tourism will provide every possible support to the Society and will renovate the infrastructure and facilities at Water Sports Centre Nigeen in the upcoming days.
Yasir Makhdoomi, secretary of the Society and Underwater Sports Association of J&K presented vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and said that the long distance swimmer Mohsin Fayaz will attempt 20kms swimming on August 27.
The event was organized by Underwater Sports Association of J&K facilitated and sponsored by Swim-N-Survival Society Kashmir, Shah Steel House and Bakeman Home Appliances.
