SRINAGAR, Nov 4: J&K Sky Running Association in collaboration with Foreshore Athletes organised Sky Running Championship–the second of its kind.
The high altitude event was held in open category wherein participants covered 7 kilometers distance from Astanmarg to Paragliding point to and fro.
The running was flagged off by SP City East Sheema Nabi Qasba along with SHO Harwan Mohammad Ayoub Rather.
Athletes from Valley’s prominent Clubs and Association especially Foreshore Athletes, Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association, Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club, Jammu and Kashmir Adventure Sports Club, took part in the championship.
Umar Farooq got the first position while as Gulbadin Hikmatyar and Muzamil Hussain Mir achieved the second and third positions respectively. Riyaz Ahmad finished fourth and Sajad Hussain claimed fifth place.
Director Tourism Kashmir Nissar Ahmad Wani was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who while speaking vowed for the full support of Sky Running as Adventure Sport and conducting of similar events at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Yousmarg, etc. Valley’s athletes are second to none and every time they proved their mettle at domestic as well as at international level, said Wani.
Earlier, Bashir Ahmad Secretary JKSRA, Secretary JKSRA Dr Anwar Hussain Nagoo, Syed Tahir (JKHMC), Sajad Kralyari (JKASC), Riyaz Wani (JKMBA), Tahir Ahmad (Athletic Coach),Yawar Zaib (TAAK), Haji Ashiq (YN), Nasir Baktoo (HBOA), Mudasir Ahmad and Ghulam Nabi (Foreshore Athletes) were present on the occasion.
