Uday Kumar interacts with students of IIMC Jammu Centre

JAMMU, Feb 20: Former Secretary, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Chairman, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Uday Kumar Varma, visited the Jammu Centre of IIMC, here today.
During his interaction with Special Officer, IIMC, Jammu, Manohar Khajuria and Faculty, he stated that during his tenure four new centres of IIMC, including that in Jammu, were planned and set up, so he was eager to see the functioning of these centres.
He was briefed by the Special Officer that the 1st and 2nd batch students of English Journalism at IIMC, Jammu have brought laurels to Centre.
2 students namely, Avantika Gupta and Kritika Joshi have secured the 1st and 2nd positions respectively among all the six centres of IIMC across the country.
Out of 12 students of IIMC Jammu who appeared in the exams, 8 have secured 1st division. One of the students of 1st batch, namely, Sugam Singhal was declared the overall topper among all the six centres of IIMC across the country during the 2012-13 academic session.
It was further conveyed that besides providing rent-free accommodation for housing the Jammu Centre, a hostel and guest house for visiting faculty, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has already allotted 87 kanals of land for setting up the Institute, while the process for allotment of additional land measuring 35 kanals is at an advanced stage at village Keran (Bantalab) Jammu.
Mr Varma stressed on the need for right ethics and good journalism practices. He said the youth of the country, especially those belonging to media fraternity, have to play major role for achieving the desired goals.
