JAMMU, July 14: The eves of Jammu Blues defeated their counterparts in Jammu Reds in the exhibition match, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Danish Rana was the chief guest on the valedictory function who distributed prizes among the winners and runner-up teams on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rana said, “By seeing the talent and skill of the women cricketers in the State, one gets a feeling that the time is ripe to promote women cricket in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He appreciated JKCA for involving girls in cricketing activities and said that JKP will organize more and more cricket tournaments for girls to help them hone their skill and match it with the eves of other States.
Mr Rana was accompanied by Rajesh Gill, organizing secretary of the event, apart from other dignitaries on the occasion.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Jammu Blues scored a modest total of 93 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Sapna Jamwal was the top scorer with 21 runs, while Nadia contributed 17 runs to the total. Sanjana also chipped in with 13 runs. For Jammu Reds, Heena Kaunser and Naina took 2 wickets each, while Sarla, Chitra and Isha claimed one wicket apiece.
In reply, Jammu Reds were bundled out for 79 runs to lose the match by a narrow margin of 14 runs. Sarla top scored with 16 runs, while Tanisha contributed 10 runs to the total. Heena Kounser, Heena Bhat and Naina contributed 9, 8 and 8 runs respectively. For Jammu Blues, Jyoti was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets, while Pushpa scalped 2 wickets. Nadia and Sapna claimed one wicket each. For her all-round display, Sapna Jamwal was adjudged woman of the match. Both the teams were presented trophies by the chief guest.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Vinod as umpires, while Sandeep was the scorer.
The match was held under the supervision of Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy player, while the proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar and RP Singh.
