As master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s 24-year-long illustrious international cricket career came to an end today, Bollywood celebrities joined the nation to bid adieu to the God of cricket.
Celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Aamir Khan, Sridevi, Abhishek Bachchan, Anupam Kher and many others took to Twitter to express their gratitude towards Tendulkar, 40, who brought the curtains down on his phenomenal career at the Wankhede Stadium here opposite West Indies.
“The magnetism of Sachin… Before during and after his play, still discussing him,” Amitabh tweeted.
Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar dedicated Sachin’s favourite song ‘Mere saaya sath hoga’ to him.
“Sachin is a quiet person. He has a big heart and is always ready to help others without thinking twice… I really appreciate his decision of taking retirement. I congratulate him for all his achievements and will pray to God that he gets every success and fame in life,” Mangeshkar wrote on Twitter.
With ‘Thank you Sachin’ trending on Twitter, actor Abhishek Bachchan joined his father to pay tribute to the master blaster.
“Thank You Sachin you have made it possible for us to say… We come from the same land as the great Sachin Tendulkar,” Abhishek wrote.
“Thank You Sachin for everything that you have given us, your fans. There will never be another like you. Love,” Aamir Khan, who was often seen cheering for Sachin in the stadium, wrote on Facebook.
“There never was and there never will be anyone like you! Thank You Sachin for making me a cricket fan and for starting my love affair with this game,” said Preity Zinta, the co-owner of IPL team Kings XI Punjab.
Actor Anupam Kher said, “God never retires. Thank You Sachin.”
“An end of an era… Thank you Sachin sir…,” tweeted Priyanka Chopra.
“Cricket will never be the same anymore. The world will miss the best batsman its ever seen! Thank You Sachin,” Sridevi posted.
“I do not think it as unfortunate to see you retire as I think it fortunate to have watched you play. Thank You Sachin,” said Farhan Akhtar.
Sachin’s heart-warming farewell speech where he thanked his family, coaches, teammates, friends and fans brought tears to many celebrities eyes.
“Greatness. Humility. Hero. Inspiration. Dignity. Integrity. Never ever experienced this emotion. Hard to describe. Thank you for the inspiration,” Anushka Sharma wrote.
“What a speech. Rula diya (made me cry),” Kunal Kohli said.
Singer Shreya Ghoshal said, “He just made me cry with the speech.. Thank You Sachin,”
