JAMMU, Nov 24: Defeating their rivals convincingly in the summit clashes, formidable Telangana boys and strong Maharashtra girls lifted titles in the 60th National School Games in the discipline of Badminton Under-14 boys and girls, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the chairmanship of its Director General, Navin Agarwal, here.
In girls’ title clash Lines, Jammu, Maharashtra defeated Gujarat by (2-0). In singles, Simran of Maharashtra defeated Nupur of Gujarat in two straight sets by (21-17, 21-11), while in doubles, Malvika and Simran of Maharashtra beat Nupur and Jhanvi of Gujarat by (21-8, 21-14).
The third place went to Rajasthan, defeating Delhi by (2-0). In singles, Seema Sharma of Rajasthan beat Aditi of Delhi by (21-11, 16-21, 22-20) and in doubles, Seema Sharma and Sejal beat Aditi and Vibhuti of Delhi in an exciting contest by (16-21, 21-19, 22-20) at District Police .
In the boys section final played at the Indoor Complex, Jammu University, Telangana got better of Karnataka by 2-0. In singles, T. Pavan Krishna of Telangana beat Rohith of Karnataka by 2-0 games by ( 21-17, 21-17), while in doubles, T Pavan Krishna and K Veera Prasad of Telangana beat Tejasbh and Kallopkar of Karnataka by 2-0 by (21-19, 21-17).
The third place went to West Bengal by defeating Rajasthan convincingly. In singles, Suraj of West Bengal beat Vikrant of Rajasthan by 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) and in doubles, Suraj and Debajyot drubbed Vikrant and Nipun by 2-0 (21-19 & 21-18).
The concluding function of the 5-day 60th National School Games will be held tomorrow at University of Jammu, wherein M I Khanday, Chief Secretary of J&K Govt will be the chief guest, who will distribute trophies, mementoes, medals and certificates among the winners and runners-up teams.
