Symposium organized

UDHAMPUR, Feb 13: The District Information Centre, Udhampur organized a symposium on the topic “Dowry System: a blot on society” in the premises of Government High School Jandrari in Ramnagar, here today.
As many as 13 students participated in the symposium and they expressed serious concern over the social evil Dowry system and its repercussions. They dwelt in detail several other social evils which are harming the society and called for a collective approach to fight such evils.
Samta Sharma was adjudged first while Anu Kumari and Anita Kumari stood 2nd and 3rd respectively in the symposium contest. Besides, Rakesh Kumar and Mohinder Kumar bagged consolation prizes.
Headmaster, Jeevan Kumar Deman who was chief guest on the occasion lauded the efforts of Information Department for organizing this programme. He said that such events go a long way in providing platform to budding students to exhibit their talent in right direction. He urged the department to organize more such programmes to generate awareness amongst the society about the social evils.
Information Department also distributed prizes and certificates of merit among the participants. Besides school management distributed 10 sweaters and 4 pairs of shoes among the poor students from school funds.
Sagar Dev Singh, Ashok Kumar and Krishan Dutt acted as judges.
