KATHUA, Feb 17: District Information Centre, Kathua organised an Inter-School symposium on the topic “RTI act- an instrument of transparency and accountability” in the premises of Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School Kathua under the aegis of Private School Association Kathua.
Chief Executive Officer, Lakhanpur Sarthal Development Authority Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan was the chief guest on the ocassion while Chief Education Officer Kathua J.K Sudan presided over the function.
Eleven students drawn from different schools took part in the symposia and expressed their views on the topic. Students threw light on the provisions of RTI Act and expressed the need for its awareness among the people to achieve its real objective. All the speakers opined that ‘Right to Information Act’ has become a healthy tool to get useful information which otherwise not possible in ordinary course.
Dr Bharat Bhushan while addressing the students appreciated the students for expressing their insight on the topic and its importance in bringing the transparent and accountable governance to the people.
Chief Education Officer Kathua also expressed his views on the topic and hailed the Private School Association for ensuring maximum participation of students in the symposium.
The Principal of Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School Gandharab Singh Katal, who is also President of Private Schools Association Kathua lauded the efforts of Information Department for organising the symposium on an important topic of ‘Right to Information’. He added that participation of students in such symposium not only provide them a platform to express their views but also a spirit of competition among them.
A jury of judges comprising Sahil Khajuria, Tej Paul Singh and Gurpreet Singh adjudged the participants.
Harjot Kour of Kids Heaven School bagged first position in the contest while Manik Bamotra of Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School and Aditi Jasrotia of Spring Dales Higher Secondary School clinched second and third positions respectively.
Chief guest gave away prizes among the top three position holders whereas certificates of participation were also given.
General Secretary Private Schools Association, Kathua Kapil Sharma, staff and large numbers of students were also present on the occasion.
