Jammu, Dec 18: The Final of the Senior State Championship was an all STC affair, with STC Warriors, the senior team of the SAI Training Centre Jammu beating their juniors, STC Terriers to retain the title for the title. In the women section also, STC warriors lifted the trophy.
In the final match of the four day championship that was played at the MA Stadium Jammu, STC Warriors got better of STC Terriers by 90-76. Terriers put up spirited performance and almost matched their seniors basket by basket, however they could not match sharp drives to the basket by Ranbir Singh and clean post play of Shubham Sharma.
Point Guard Amanjot Singh and forwards Gurvinder, Jaskirat and Rohan displayed superb offensive and defensive skills to outclass their opponents.
Kunal Gupta, Sachin Dogra and Rohan Sharma coordinated well to produce some clinical offense, but 6 ft 5 inches Centre Hritik Khullar, who was ably assisted by forwards Inderjeet Singh and Tanveer grabbed fair percentage of rebounds from the Warriors, which kept the match evenly poised till the very last.
Earlier in the day, experienced Jammu District beat STC Cubs, the team that comprised of players below sixteen years of age, but left a mark in the Senior State Championship by 67-54 for the third place. The match saw a see saw battle between the two teams till the end. Jammu district banked upon tall and lanky Vipul who grabbed most rebounds in defense and denied second shots to the cubs. Prannav Dubey also made useful contribution for the winners.
JKBA Selection Committee shortlisted probable players in men and women sections who will undergo training camp at the MA Stadium from December 20 onwards.
Former Director General Sports Jai Pal Singh was the chief guest on the finals. He gave away prizes to the winners and runners up teams.
