*Jammu District drubs STC Hoopsters in women’s final

JAMMU, Dec 18: Outplay-ing JKP Central team by a margin of 24 points (99-75), SAI Training Centre lifted the men’s title, while Jammu District defeated STC Hoopsters by 15 points (45-30) to win the women’s title in the State Senior Basketball Championship, which concluded at MA Stadium, here today.
Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to Chief Minister and former Vice Chancellor Jammu University was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mattoo lavished praise on the organisers for smooth and successful conduct of this sporting extravaganza.
Prof Naresh Padha, Director Academic Staff College, University of Jammu was the guest of honour.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman State Sports Council Jammu and Member Board of Control for Cricket in India, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Jt. Secretary State Sports Council Jammu, Masood Malik from Australia, Shahnawaz Choudhary, general secretary, Congress, office bearers of J&K Basketball Association including Aman Sharma, Vikram Handa and Ashok Singh, besides office bearers of various district units of the Association.
Earlier, in the men’s final, SAI Training Centre defeated JKP Central team by (99-75). At half time, both the teams were going neck to neck and the score was (46-45).
For STC, Ranbir Singh, Shubham Sharma, Amarjot Singh, Jaskeerat Singh and Gurvinder Singh were the star performers, while Iqbal Singh and Sumit Kumar performed well for JKP Central team.
In women’s section, Jammu District defeated STC Hoopsters by 15 points (45-30). The star performers from Jammu District were Amarpreet Kour, Radhika Chowdhary and Anita Singh, while from STC Kanupriya Dubey and Harneet played well.
The matches were officiated by the panel of experts including Rajinder Mangotra, Mohd Shafi, Rajesh Bandral and Sachin Dogra.
