GULMARG, Mar 26: Organized by Winter Games Association of J&K under the auspices of J&K State Sports Council the three days Annual State Winter Games concluded at Kongdori, here yesterday. Commandant HAWS Maj. General Atul Kaushak, SM VSM was the chief guest on the valedictory function held in Visitors Hall of State Cable Car Corporation, while MLA Gulmarg and President Winter Games Association was the guest of honour.
The other special invitees were Col Dhillon Director IIS&M, Riyaz Ahmad Malik General Manager, JKSCCC, Mudasir Mir President Snow Shoe Federation of India, Capt. Chander Mouli, Asstt Director Youth Services Shabir Wanbi, Olympians Gul Mustafa Dev and Nadeem Iqbal, international Skiers Hafeeza Hassan, Arif Khan, and Mahmood Lone, Asstt Manager Gondola Fayaz Ahmad and Prof Gurmeet Kour.
In his address Abbas Wani said this was the biggest winter championship in India in which more than 150 athletes of all age groups took part and kept Gulmarg abuzz of sporting events at Gulmarg this winter.
Maj. General Kaushak after congratulating the participants and organizers assured his full support to the WGAJK in conducting such mega events.
Later-on, MLA Gulmarg mementoes to the Major General and Riyaz Malik for their contribution in the development of winter sports.
On the 3rd and final day of the Championship, Bilal Bhat, Fayaz Hajam and Bilal Sheikh got first 3 positions respectively in Senior Men Alpine Ski Giant Slalom, while in women event Shakila Akhtar got consolation prize.
In junior boys, Haseeb Hajam, Irfan Sheikh and Amir Bin Rahim got first 3 positions, while in girls event, Sabiya Nabi, Zainab Rashid and Sana Afzal got first 3 positions.
In 2000-01 boys age group, Ayan Zargar, Sheikh Sajid and Zamin Rashid got first 3 positions, while in girls group Zaara Hashim, Muskan Latief and Asfa Qureshi got first 3 positions.
In 2002-03 born boys, Shoib Rashid, Sheikh Waleed and Arsalan Manzoor got first three positions and in girls event Malaikah Gul Dev, Syedah Azha and and Sadiya Ayjaz got first 3 positions.
In 2004-05 born boys, first 3 positions went to Azhar Hussain, Faizan Lone and Mohammad Zaid, while in category Saara Ajaz, Juwaanah and Nida Khan got first 3 positions.
In Snowboarding Giant Slalom Senior Mudasir Bhat, Raja Waseem and Nadeem Mushtaq got first 3 positions, while in junior group Mehraj Din Khan got first positions, while in Nordic sprint men, Mohamad Abid, Syed Javed and Syed Ishfaq got first 3 positions and in women section Shakeela, Nighat and Aqsa Tariq got first 3 positions.
