JAMMU, May 30: Organised by the Young’s Badminton Club under the aegis of Jammu City and District Badminton Association, the five-day long State Open Badminton Championship got underway at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
The event was declared open by former Member Legislative Assembly (ex-MLA), Rajesh Gupta in a well attended function.
Around 250 young participants shall compete for the top honours in five different age groups of under-10, under-13, under-15, under- 17 and under-19 years.
Earlier, general secretary of the J&K Badminton Association, Balbir Jamwal, welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering and thanked him (ex-MLA) for extending infrastructural (Badminton court mats) support to the game of Badminton.
Chairman of the Association, Dr OD Sharma also appreciated the former Legislator for encouraging sports.
Today preliminary round matches were played under the supervision of organising secretary of the championship, SAI Badminton coach, Satpal Sharma and Vikram Saini (SAI Badminton coach).
Prominent among others present were Divisional Sports Officer of JKSSC, Ravi Singh, V.K Sharma (Incharge SAI STC Jammu), Aman Sharma , Devraj Gupta (SAI coaches), Som Raj Gupta, Vinay Saraf, Sukhdev Singh, Romesh Sharma, Pawanjit Singh, Ramesh Raina and Ashok Singh (Manager MA Stadium).
