Star-studded AG’s J&K lifts Rigour Cup Cricket Tournament

JAMMU, Apr 5: Team work helped star-studded AG’s J&K to thrash United Cricket Club (UCC) Udhampur by 4 wickets in the summit clash to lift the title trophy of Rigour Cup 50-Over Cricket Tournament, organized by Country Cricket Club, which concluded at Country Cricket Stadium, Gharota, near here today.
Accountant General J&K, Shourjo Chatterjee was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and the runners-up teams.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that winning and losing is part of the game and what matters is the sporting spirit.
He congratulated both the teams for showing extraordinary skills to seal berth in the finals.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, UCC Udhampur scored a modest total of 113 runs in 26 overs. Abid Mushtaq top scored with 34 runs, while Saksham Sharma and Jatin Wadhawan contributed 25 and 15 runs to the total respectively. No other batsmen crossed the double figure mark. From AG’s, skipper Omar Alam was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets, while Ram Dayal and Waseem Raza bagged 2 wickets each and Rahil Singh claimed one wicket.
In reply, AG’s chased the target easily by losing 6 wickets, thus won the match by 4 wickets. Waseem Raza top scored with 35 runs, while Aditya Pratap Singh contributed valuable 23 runs. Paras Sharma and Vimarsh Kaw scored 18 and 12 runs respectively, while Ram Dayal and Omar Alam remained unbeaten on 3 and 2 runs respectively. Ritik Singh was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 4 wickets, while Raman Dutta and Abid Mushtaq claimed one wicket each. Omar Alam was adjudged as the man of the match, while Waseem Raza was declared as the man of the series. Dikshant Kundal and Ritik Singh were named best batsman and best bowler respectively.
Former First Class Cricketer Ashwani Gupta and Rajan Singh were the coach and mentor of AG’s J&K.
The match was officiated by Dayal Singh and Girdhari Lal as umpires and Swastik Sharma as scorer, while the tournament was held under the overall supervision of Vikrant Sharma, President Country Cricket Club, Sandeep Singh (Sunny), General Secretary Country Cricket Club and Vivek Sharma, Former Ranji Trophy Player.
Former junior selector JKCA, Paramjeet Singh was also present on the occasion.
The proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, while Sandeep Kumar was the videographer.
