NAGROTA, Dec 19: Tagging sports as important component of educational activity, Provincial President National Conference and MLA Nagrota on Saturday exhorted youngsters to put in their best and strive for excellence in play-fields without compromising their academics.
“Work while you work and play while you play”, Mr Rana quoted the Brainy quote while addressing students, teachers and parents at the Annual Sports Day function of St Xavier Public High School at Khanpur in Nagrota Assembly Constituency, to emphasise the need for maintaining balance between academics and sports.
He appreciated the enthusiasm of students in extracurricular activities, avenues being provided by the school management and above all support of the parents in making their wards versatile in every sphere of academic activity and hoped this will place the institution in good stead in this era of competition. He urged the students to concentrate on such games which interest them the most so as to make mark in various competitions.
Mr Rana said that sports are not only imperative for mental and physical growth of the children but it opens up vistas of opportunities to them as far as career is concerned. In this context, he referred to various big names who have made their mark in different sports as professionals.
The Provincial President observed that while parents can play a supportive role in shaping the future of their children, it is actually the educational institution which can mould them well to meet the challenges with fortitude. He said the relationship between parents and the educational institutions has to be positive and based on trust.
He complimented the management for organising annual day sports event in a befitting manner, saying that these remain treasure for the students all their life.
The students of the school participated in various games to mark the annual day event.
Chairman of the School Col D. S Trehan, Director Dr Chand Trehan, Principal Basanti Saproo, Principal Army School Nagrota Mohinder Kour Trehan besides parents, teachers and prominent citizens of the area were present during the annual sports day celebrations.
