Sports Saviour, Hero Club win opening ties

Brig Suchait Singh inaugurates Ist Arun Memorial Football Cup

JAMMU, Apr 16: Sports Saviours Football Club and Hero Club won their respective matches to move into the next round of the Ist Arun Sharma Memorial Football Cup Tournament, organised by Climrate Football Club under the aegis of J&K Football Association (JKFA) at Mini Stadium, Parade, here today.
The event was declared open by senior BJP leader, Brigadier Suchait Singh, who was chief guest. Accompanied by guests of honour, ex-MLA, Rajesh Gupta, senior BJP leader, Narayan Singh and head Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, the chief guest interacted with the teams playing in the second match of the day.
Earlier, in the first match, Sports Saviour FC defeated equally good Sainik Colony Football Club by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match came through experience Vishal in the 46th minute.
In other scheduled match of the day, Hero Club trounced Param Football Club by three goals to nil. Raghav Gupta (21st) and Kartik (59th) were among the goal scorers.
The chief guest and other distinguished gathering formally welcomed by treasurer of JKFA, Surinder Singh Bunty, who described Arun Sharma, in whose memory the event is being held, as the true sportsman. He said that Arun, popularly known as ‘Coach Sahib’ was himself an international medalist in Handball, who later produced many world class stuff in the game from J&K.
Also present were office bearers of the JKFA including Kuldeep Singh, Ramesh Chander (both vice presidents), Rajesh Sumbria (treasurer DFA Jammu), Yusuf Don (secretary DFA) and president of J&K Handball Association, Dr S M Bali.
A host of other international Handball players and veteran footballers were among the distinguished gathering.
