JAMMU, Nov 28: Jammu and Kashmir Rural Sports Club celebrated the 543rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji as ‘Humanity Welfare Day’ with visually challenged persons by way of holding sports events at residential school for blinds, here today. Almost every student was involved in sports events of chess, carrom and cricket with an aim to give these physically challenged children a feeling of normal life.
However, otherwise independent these highly qualified children of different age group inspired those normal individuals gathered there to share time with them through their exceptional skills of writing and playing.
Since the function held in connection with birth anniversary of Guru Nank Devji, the recitation of Gurbani and Shabad Kirtan by Bhai Joginder Singh provided these young children a feel of the day. Students were also told about the selfless life of Sikh Guru, who taught the lesson of brotherhood and humanity throughout his life.
Earlier, president of the Club, Narinder Singh highlighted the aims and objectives of the nation building campaign and celebration of the important day as humanity welfare day. Later, prizes were given away to the students who participated in sports events and excelled. Those who blessed the blind students with their encouraging words were DFO, Pritam Singh, Jagjit Singh, Baljeet Singh and Dr Tamanna Kour.
The Club expressed sincere thanks to Superintendent of residential school for blinds, Khalda and incharge, Indira Raina for providing an opportunity to interact with the inmates. Bhopinder Singh `Bholla’ presented vote of thanks.
