JAMMU, Dec 31: Despite tall claims of the Government about boosting the sports activities, J&K State Sports Council has failed to maintain the football stadium near Parade much to the disappointment of hundreds of sportspersons.
As per sources, Football Stadium near Parade has turned unsafe for the players as the officials involved in maintaining the stadium has turned blind eye towards it. “The stadium is in deplorable condition due to neglecting attitude of the State Sports Council as a result of which players face numerous problems and at most of the times suffer injuries while playing football”, they said.
“The players took up the issue with the authorities of the Sports Council a number of times but no action has been taken to repair the damaged stadium”, sources informed, adding “due to deplorable condition of the stadium, players are finding it difficult to carry out practice what to talk of holding matches”.
Parents of the children practicing football told the Excelsior that the Council’s casual approach is preventing the youngsters from conducting routine practice. “On the one hand, Government claims to promote sports in the Jammu and Kashmir, but on the other hand, it has failed to maintain the already existing infrastructure and one of the glaring examples is football stadium, which needs immediate attention”, they said.
“Who will be responsible if our children receive grievous injuries while playing”, they questioned and asked the State Sports Council to get the damaged football ground maintained at the earliest so that their children can practice on regular basis.
Moreover, there is no proper watch and ward for the stadium as a result of which stadium has become safer zone for the outsiders, who take the advantage of the situation and indulge in unlawful activities like consuming liquor and playing gambling. During visit to the stadium this Correspondent found several empty bottles of the liquor.
“People used to consume liquor in this stadium as there is no check over the visitors”, sources said stressing that the Sports Council with the assistance of Police Department should keep check over the persons visiting the stadium.
“It seems that funds meant for this stadium have been swindled otherwise there was no justification is maintaining blind eye towards its deplorable condition”, sources said.
