JAMMU, July 26: In order to prepare its students for the forthcoming 6th Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship and to facilitate the State team to perform well in the North Zone championship Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu organized a competition today for its students after a weeklong coaching camp in the school premises. However, some of the seasoned climbers like Asma Gul, Rudra Partap Singh and Randeep Singh who have already brought laurels to the school and the state in the zonal and national competitions opted out of this competition to pave way for the upcoming climbers to stand on the podium.
The competition was a big success as there was a tough competition among the many new but talented budding climbers in four categories of Sub Junior Boys and Girls and Mini Boys and Girls.
It was a real treat to watch Nitish Sharma, a class 4th student, who topped the 40ft high fibre glass climbing wall like a seasoned climber and secured the first place in the mini Boys category.
Other climbers who excelled in the competition included Nandhini Dhar and Mansi Parihar.
Results:
Mini Boys: 1. Nitish Sharma. 2.Vansh Sharma and 3. Aditya Singh.
Mini Girls: 1. Nandhini Dhar. 2.Mansi Parihar and 3. Janvi Sharma and Mahima Sharma.
Sub Junior Boys: 1. Keshav Rattan Sharma. 2.Aadil Bashir Katoch and 3. Ajay Singh.
Sub Junior Girls: 1. Zuffishan Khatana. 2. Simran and 3. Sunandhini Bhagat.
In all, 62 students including 27 girls competed for honours in the day-long competition organized under the technical supervision of Manik Slathia, a route Setter cum Belayer and Sakshi Magotra, a local sport climbing Judge.
Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria, Secretary and Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K remained present during the competition to personally supervise the technical and logistic aspects of the competition. In the concluding function, Arti Sharma, Principal, Apple Kids International was the chief guest, who along with Rahul Sharma, Chairman, Sprawling Buds ICSE School distributed medals among the winners.
