JAMMU, Oct 24: Inter-Collegiate Tournaments in the disciplines of Hockey and Cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, were played here today.
In Inter-Collegiate Hockey Tournament for men, Government SPMR College of Commerce will take on PG Arts, Jammu University at KK Hakku Stadium, here tomorrow.
Earlier in the first semis, Government SPMR College of Commerce beat Government MAM College by 3-1 goals. For Commerce College side, Sahil Kumar Randeep Singh and Pushpinder Singh netted the goal in 38th, 40th and 42nd minutes respectively, whereas for MAM College side, Gurpreet Singh scored the goal in 30th minute.
In second semifinal, PG Arts, JU crushed GDC Paloura by 3-2 goals. For PG Arts side, Rajveer netted the goal in 9th minute and Rahul Bansh scored two goals in 12th and 16th minutes, whereas for GDC Paloura side, Karanpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh scored the goals in 56th and 58th minutes respectively.
Meanwhile in Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament for men, SPMR College of Commerce and MIET registered wins and sailed into next stage.
In the first match, SPMR College of Commerce defeated GDC Bhaderwah by 10 runs. Batting first, SPMR College made 123 runs by losing all the wickets in 20 overs. Surya Mahotra was the top scorer with 43 runs, while Avesh, Suryansh and Sahil made 17, 16 and 11 runs respectively.
For GDC Bhaderwah side, Rahul scalped three wickets and Ganesh took 2 wickets. Santosh and Adil also clinched one wicket each.
In reply, GDC Bhaderwah failed to chase the target and bundled out at 113 runs by losing all wickets in 20 overs. Rahul made 63 runs, while Arif and Shafaqat scored 18 and 9 runs respectively.
For SPMR College side, Ajay was the pick of the bowler, who took 4 wickets, while Sahil Chowdhary took one wicket.
In the second match, MIET outplayed GDC Ramnagar by 7 wickets. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, GDC Ramnagar scored 86 runs by losing 3 wickets in 12.5 overs. Tilak and Jasmeet made 24 and 17 runs respectively.
For MIET side, Nasrullah and Lakshay scalped 2 wickets each, while Saket clinched one wicket.
In the second inning, MIET chased the target by losing 3 wickets. Pushpinder was the top scorer with 30 runs, while Peerzada, Saket and Ankush made 17, 14 and 11 runs respectively.
For GDC Ramnagar side, Vishal scalped 2 wickets.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mohan Lal, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Raman Kumar and Opinderpal Singh as umpires, while Vinod maintained the scoreboard.
The Tournaments were being conducted under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
