JAMMU, Aug 21: Outplaying their rivals convincingly in the semifinal matches, SPMR College of Commerce and GGM Science College have qualified for the finals of the men’s section of the Inter-Collegiate Chess Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here.
Earlier, in the 1st semifinal, S P M R College of Commerce defeted Govt MAM College by 3-1 points. Navjot Singh of Commerce College beat Nikhil Dhawan, Taranjeet Singh of Commerce College trounced Nitname Singh, Rachit Gupta of Commerce College drubbed Shivam Mahajan and Rashpal Singh of Commerce College lost to Ankush Choudhary, while in the 2nd semifinal, G G M Science College got better of P G Deptt of Jammu University by 3-2 points. The match was decided through best versus best game. Aditya Sawhney of Science College drubbed Aayush Pandit, – Siddharth Maini of Science College defeated Hiteshwar Kesar, Akhil Singh of Science College lost to Utkarsh Pathania and Sukhdev Singh of Science College lost to Kulveer Singh Parihar. In the best versus best game Siddharth Maini of Science College beat Kulveer Singh Parihar.
Meanwhile in the 1st semifinal of women section, G D C Udhampur drubbed GCW Gandhinagar team by 3-2 points. The match was decided through best versus best game.
Monika Thakur of GDC Udhampur beat Mehak Bakshi, Sheetal Sharma of GDC Udhampur beat Richa Sharma, Kritika Sharma of GDC Udhampur lost to Madeha and Priyanka Aithmia of GDC Udhampur lost to Geetanjali. In the best versus best game, Monika Thakur of GDC Udhampur team beat Mehak Bakshi of GCW Gandhi Nagar.
In women’s 2nd semifinal, GCW Parade got walkover.
Tomorrow the final matches of both sections will be played simultaneously at 8.30 a m between GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce in men’s section and GDC Udhampur and GCW Parade in women’s section.
