SPMR College registers win in Tennis; GDC Kishtwar, GGM Science College enter next stage in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 17: Inter-Collegiate Tournaments in the disciplines of Tennis and Cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, were played here today.
The first match in Inter-Collegiate Tennis Tournament for men was played between SPMR College of Commerce and MBS College at Tennis Court, University of Jammu. SPMR College of Commerce beat MBS College by 3-0. In Singles, Nippun beat Sameer by 6-3, whereas in Doubles, Vinay and Mayank smashed Sameer and Abshishek by 6-0 and in another Singles event, Sawant crushed Abhishek by 6-4.
In the second match, GGM Science College got walkover from GDC Paloura.
The match was officiated by Deepak Singh, Ravish Vaid, and Gourav Sharma.
Meanwhile, in Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament, GDC Kishtwar and GGM Science College crushed rivals in their respective matches and sailed into the next stage of the tournament.
In the first match, GGM Science College registered 47 runs win over GDC Samba. Batting First, GGM Science College made 142 runs by losing 8 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Ankush Sharma played a splendid inning of 76 runs off 55 balls including 10 boundaries and two sixes, while Manik chipped in 21 runs in 16 balls with the help of 3 boundaries.
For GDC Samba side, Anup was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 3 wickets by giving 26 runs in 4 overs, while Shubham took 2 wickets by conceding 20 runs in 2 overs. Sachin and Rishav clinched one wicket each by giving 20 and 34 runs respectively in their 3 overs spell.
In reply, GDC failed to chase the target and bundled out at 95 runs by losing all wickets in 19.1 overs. Happy was the top scorer with 23 runs off 19 balls including four boundaries and one six, while Shubham scored 22 runs with the help of 3 boundaries. Abhishek, Vinod and Vishal made 10 runs each.
For GGM Science College side, Sant Baksh was the pick of the bowler with 3 wickets by giving 14 runs in 3.1 overs, while Hitesh and Pawan scalped 2 wickets. Vikram also took one wicket.
In the second match, GDC Kishtwar smashed Law School, JU by 22 runs. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, GDC Kishtwar set a target of 130 runs by losing 7 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Henan was the highest scorer with 41 runs with five balls towards the fence, while Babar made 26 runs, Daud scored 27 runs and Burhan chipped in 13 runs.
For Law School JU side, Shahruk scalped 2 wickets by conceding 37 runs in 4 overs, while Sohit, Gourav and Vijander took one wicket apiece by giving 21, 20 and 25 runs respectively in their 4 overs spell.
In the second inning, Law School JU players tried their level best to win, but failed and collapsed at 108 runs by losing 9 wickets in fixed 20 overs. Jatin was the top scorer with 27 runs including one boundary and one six, while Shahrukh and Ranjeet made 14 and 13 runs respectively.
For GDC Kishtwar side, Burhan scalped 3 wickets by giving 16 runs in 4 overs, while Henan, Daud, Nitin and Aaqib took one wicket each.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Vijay Kumar, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Amit Gupta and Sadiq Hussain as umpires, while Vinod maintained the scoreboard.
