BARAMULLA, Feb 4: Ishrat Akhter, daughter of Abdul Rashid Mir, resident of village Bungdara, Baramulla, a 24-year old wheel chair Basket Ball player who has represented India in Asia Oceania Championship 2019 in Pattaya, Thailand, was presented an imported wheel chair with an aim to enhance her mobility in day to day activities and improve her performance in future international sports events.
The wheel chair was presented by Brig N K Mishra, Commander Hyderbeg Sector under the aegis of CIF (K) .
The function was organised at Zorawar Hall and was attended by the family members and other villagers of the area. The Commander appreciated the commitment and dedication of the young player and acknowledged the indomitable spirit displayed by her in fighting all odds and overcoming her physical limitations. He also congratulated the player for not only been the first girl from Baramulla to represent India in such an event but also for being a role model for the young generation of Kashmir.
On the occasion of Republic day 2020, the budding player was also felicitated at the Union Territory level by Farooq Khan, Advisor to Lt Governor for her commendable contribution in the field of sports.
