Katra, Nov 21: Two matches in football and one in cricket were played on the first day of Inter Hostel Football and Cricket Tournament of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, which began in Shrine Board Sports Complex, here today.
The Tournament is being organized by the Sports Department of SMVD University.
In the inaugural Football match played between Nilgiri Blue (Ronaldo) and Vindyanchal Red XI (Arsenal), latter defeated the former by three goals to Nil (3-0). Two goals came in first half and one in the second half.
In the second match played today, Vindyanchal Blue beat Trikuta Red (Dynamos) by 3:0.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Basholi Red (Mercurials) will take on Nilgiri Red (Engineers) and Trikuta Blue with Basholi Blue.
In cricket, one match was played between SMVDU Mains and Vindyanchal Red XI. SMVDU Mains defeated Vindyanchal Red XI by three wickets.
Batting first, Vindyanchal Red XI scored 104 runs in stipulated 20 overs. SMVDU Mains chased the target in 19.1 overs. Saukat Ahmed of SMVDU Mains scored unbeaten 43 runs and was adjudged as man of the match.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports SMVDSB, Dr Ajay K Sharma, I/c Faculty Sports and president BSA and Sucha Singh, Coach were present on the occasion.
