SRINAGAR, Mar 4: Due to non-availability of roller skating tracks in Kashmir, skating lovers come on roads on strike days-when traffic remains of the roads-to enjoy this adventure sport.
Muhied Noor, 14, a 9th standard student from Koker Bazar, Lal Chowk comes frequently on road particularly around historic clock tower (Ganta Ghar) to enjoy this sport. “Due to the lack of skating track I come on roads for practice,” Muhied said.
He said, “I have been doing skating in Lal Chowk from last five years. As the area witnessed many shut downs during the past five years I got the chance to convert otherwise busy roads into skating track.”
Muhied said during his initial days he was not allowed by his parents to do skating on roads. “But seeing my passion for skating, I was then allowed by parents,” he added.
Inspired by watching skating on TV and taught by none, Muhied can beat any top player by his quick shakes and control on his feet-if given chance. “I want to represent my State at national level and then want to teach skating in schools,” Muhied said.
Muhied said that he approached Sports Council authorities many times for skating tracks adding that the response from the other side has been lackadaisical.
